The infrastructure layer for the EU battery lifecycle.

EU Digital Passport Processor™ is a DPP Service Provider under ESPR Article 2(32) — an independent third-party authorised by economic operators to process digital product passport data and make it available to relevant actors. Every EV, Industrial, and LMT battery placed on the EU market from 18 February 2027 requires a Digital Product Passport. EU Digital Passport Processor™ creates it, hosts it, submits it, and manages it.

What's in scope

Which batteries require a Digital Product Passport?

EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542 mandates passports for three categories — all from 18 February 2027.

18 February 2027

EV Battery

Electric vehicle traction batteries (≥2 kWh). Full Annex XIII passport mandatory — battery chemistry, capacity, carbon footprint, supply chain due diligence.

Carbon footprint declaration: mandatory from 18 February 2025 under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/1346.
18 February 2027

Industrial Battery (incl. SBESS)

Industrial batteries (≥2 kWh) and stationary battery energy storage systems (SBESS). Covers grid storage, UPS, and industrial process batteries.

Carbon footprint declaration: mandatory from 18 February 2026.
18 February 2027

LMT Battery

Light means of transport batteries: e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds, e-cargo bikes. Fastest-growing passport category by volume.

No capacity threshold. Every LMT battery requires a passport — regardless of size.
Carbon footprint declaration: mandatory from 18 August 2028.

The obligation applies to all global operators placing qualifying batteries on the EU or UK market — not only EU-domiciled companies. Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Indian manufacturers exporting to the EU have the same obligation.

How it works

From demo to compliant passport in four steps

1

Register your interest

Demo accounts open from June 2026 — once live testing with the EU Battery Passport test registry is complete. Full platform access — 10-passport activation limit. Admin-approved, no self-serve signup.

2

Create your passports

Wizard-guided Annex XIII data entry — battery chemistry, carbon footprint, capacity, supply chain actors, hazardous substances. GS1 Digital Link QR code generated on activation. Download and print on the battery label.

3

Submit to the EU registry

EU Digital Passport Processor™ submits to the EU EES on your behalf. Mock submission mode until July 2026 — when the EU registry launches, all submissions convert to live automatically. Your compliance record starts building from day one.

4

The passport lives with the battery

Customs authorities scan the GS1 Digital Link QR at the border. Second life operators access provenance data. Recyclers retrieve material composition. The passport is a live data asset — not an archived certificate. EU Digital Passport Processor™ hosts it for the battery's full lifecycle.

The statutory category

EU Digital Passport Processor™ is a DPP Service Provider. Not a compliance tool.

“An independent third-party authorised by the economic operator to process digital product passport data and make it available to relevant actors.”

ESPR Article 2(32) — definition of DPP Service Provider

That is the statutory category EU Digital Passport Processor™ operates in. The EU EES is the canonical registry — the golden source of record. EU Digital Passport Processor™ is the application and workflow layer above it. We handle creation, validation, submission, hosting, and delivery on your behalf. You remain the economic operator. We are your data infrastructure.

DPP Service Provider certification under the ESPR delegated act framework is expected from approximately 2028. EU Digital Passport Processor™ is on the certification pathway. Operators using EU Digital Passport Processor™ at go-live establish their passport operations on infrastructure that will be certified when the scheme opens.

EU Digital Passport Processor™ Backup
Mandatory backup hosting

Certification in progress. Start building your record now.

Under the ESPR DPP Service Provider certification framework, every operator must maintain a certified backup of their passport data with an independent provider. EU Digital Passport Processor™ Backup is operated by a provider on the certification pathway — mandatory certification is expected from approximately 2028.

Operators who establish backup hosting now build a continuous record from day one. When certification becomes mandatory in approximately 2028, no migration is required.

Already using a different DPP platform? EU Digital Passport Processor™ Backup accepts passport data via REST API. Your primary platform is unchanged.
