From 18 February 2027, every EV, Industrial, and LMT battery placed on the EU market must have a Digital Product Passport registered with the European Commission. We handle registration automatically — you create the passport, we submit it.

02 — What the registry is

A central index of every passport. Pointers, not payloads.

The registry does not store the full passport data — it stores references. We host the data; the registry holds the pointer. When customs officers scan the QR code, they query the registry which directs them to the live passport data.

Registry holds

The pointer

  • Unique passport identifier
  • Your Operator ID
  • Pointer to passport data (URL)
  • Registration status
EU Digital Passport Processor holds

The data

  • Full Annex XIII compliance data
  • Carbon footprint declaration (Article 7)
  • Supply-chain documentation
  • GS1 Digital Link QR code
03 — Submission flow

Five steps from passport to registry.

The full lifecycle of a single submission. Steps 02 onward are handled by us automatically — you create the passport in step 01 and watch it move through the rest.

  1. 01

    Create your passport

Enter all Annex XIII fields in EU Digital Passport Processor. Validate completeness before submission.

  2. 02

    We submit

We submit to the EU registry using your Operator ID as the authorising credential.

  3. 03

    Registry validates

The Commission checks Annex XIII completeness and schema compliance.

  4. 04

    Registry ID issued

A unique Registry ID is assigned to your passport and stored in EU Digital Passport Processor.

  5. 05

    Passport registered

Your battery is cleared for EU customs. QR scan at any port confirms registration.

04 — Operator ID

Register once with the Commission. Submit forever through us.

Every economic operator placing batteries on the EU market must register with the Commission to receive an Operator ID. This is a one-time registration. We submit all your passports using your Operator ID as the authorising credential — you only need to register once and enter it in your Settings.

Authorised Representatives

One Operator ID covers all manufacturer clients you represent. Our AR account type is built for this — manage passports for multiple manufacturers under a single account. The AR client picker in the wizard ties each passport to the correct end client at submission time.

05 — Rejection handling

If the registry rejects, we tell you exactly why.

The registry performs validation checks. If rejected, we show the specific field that failed and guidance on how to fix it. Correct the data and resubmit — there is no penalty for rejected submissions, only for not having a registered passport when batteries are on the market.

Missing mandatory field

The most common rejection reason. EU Digital Passport Processor prevents this with full Annex XIII validation before you submit.

Duplicate identifier

The passport number is already registered by another operator. Use a unique passport number.

Operator ID not recognised

Your EU Registry Operator ID has not been activated. Register with the Commission first, then add your ID to Settings.

Schema mismatch

The passport was created against an outdated Annex XIII version. EU Digital Passport Processor tracks schema updates automatically.

06 — Service Provider certification

The scheme is not yet adopted.

EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542 establishes a certification scheme for DPP Service Providers under Article 2(32) ESPR via delegated act. The scheme has not yet been adopted by the European Commission. Our technical and operational practices are designed to align with the expected requirements of the anticipated scheme. We make no claim of certification at this time.

08 — Common questions

Asked and answered.

Do I need to register with the EU registry directly?

You need to register with the European Commission to obtain an Operator ID — this is a one-time step you do directly with the Commission. Once you have your ID, enter it in EU Digital Passport Processor and we handle all registry submissions on your behalf.

What is a DPP Service Provider and why does it matter?

A DPP Service Provider is a company like EU Digital Passport Processor that hosts battery passport data and submits to the registry on behalf of economic operators. The European Commission is establishing a certification scheme for providers under Article 2(32) ESPR; the scheme has not yet been adopted by the Commission.

What happens to my passports before the registry launches in July 2026?

EU Digital Passport Processor operates in mock-submission mode until the registry launches. Your passport data is fully stored and compliant with Annex XIII. When you click Submit, a mock submission is created. When the registry goes live, EU Digital Passport Processor automatically migrates to live submission — no action required from you.

Can I submit passports to the registry myself without using EU Digital Passport Processor?

Yes — the registry will provide a direct submission API. However, this requires your own integration, schema validation, error handling, and polling logic. EU Digital Passport Processor handles all of this automatically, including status tracking and error-resolution guidance.

What if I already have a battery on the market without a registered passport on 18 February 2027?

EU market surveillance authorities can take enforcement action including product withdrawal, fines, and customs holds. The penalty framework varies by member state but non-compliance is a significant commercial and regulatory risk.

How long does registry validation take?

The real registry timeline is not yet published. EU Digital Passport Processor's mock mode simulates a validation window of approximately 90 seconds for testing purposes. When the live registry launches, EU Digital Passport Processor polls for status updates automatically every 5 minutes.
