§01.01 · GETTING STARTED

Creating Your First Battery Passport.

Step-by-step entry from battery type selection to an active GS1 Digital Link QR code — the foundational entry of this documentation.

EU Digital Passport Processor takes you from blank screen to active QR code in about 15 minutes. Before you start, have your GS1 GTIN (14-digit product identifier) and Annex XIII battery data ready — the wizard will ask for both.

GTIN cannot be changed after activationOnce activated, the GTIN is encoded permanently into the GS1 Digital Link QR code. If you change your GTIN after printing battery labels, you must reprint every label. Verify your GTIN in your GS1 account before activating.
GTIN — 14 digits, no spaces or hyphens
Correct: 09501234500003
Incorrect: 0950 1234 500003 # spaces not allowed
Incorrect: 09501234-500003 # hyphens not allowed

The wizard — four steps

  1. Select Battery TypeChoose EV Battery, Industrial Battery, or LMT Battery. Each card shows the EU compliance deadline for that category. EV batteries: 18 February 2027. Industrial batteries: 18 August 2027. LMT batteries: 18 February 2027. If you are an Authorised Representative, you will first see a client selection screen — choose which manufacturer client this passport belongs to.
  2. Enter Basic DetailsProduct name (the commercial name of your battery product), GTIN (your 14-digit GS1 product identifier), passport number (auto-generated as PP-YYYY-XXXXXX, editable), and passport level — Model (one per product line), Batch (one per production run), or Item (one per unit).
  3. Technical DataAnnex XIII fields organised into four collapsible sections: Identity & Origin, Electrical Specifications, Environmental & Recycled Content, and Lifecycle & End of Life. Fields show a purple Required tag or grey Optional tag inline. All required fields must be completed before you can create the passport. The form auto-saves as you type.
  4. Review & CreateA summary of all entered data. Check everything — especially your GTIN — then click Create Draft Passport.
EU registry is in mock submission mode until July 2026EU Digital Passport Processor submits passports to a mock registry environment. When the live EU DPP Registry launches on 19 July 2026, EU Digital Passport Processor will automatically resubmit all active passports. No action required from you.

After creation

Your passport is saved as a draft. From the passport detail page you can:

  • Upload compliance documents (CoA, DoC, test reports)
  • Add supply chain actors with verification levels
  • Activate the passport — this generates the GS1 Digital Link QR code and makes the public viewer live
  • Submit to EU Registry (mock mode until July 2026)
  • Download the GS1 Digital Link QR code PNG for your battery label
Add your EU Operator ID nowThe EU registry launches July 2026. Add your EU Registry Operator ID in Settings before this date to enable live registry submission. Go to Settings and find the EU Registry Operator ID section.
