Every passport submitted to the EU DPP Registry goes through a series of status states. This article explains what each one means and what action (if any) you need to take.
The seven status states
| Status | What it means | Action required? |
|---|---|---|
| Not submitted | The passport has not been submitted to the registry. It may be in Draft or Active state within EU Digital Passport Processor but has not yet been sent. | Submit the passport when ready. |
| Queued | The submission request has been received by EU Digital Passport Processor and is waiting to be sent to the registry API. This typically lasts seconds. | None — automatic. |
| Submitted | The passport data has been sent to the EU registry and is awaiting validation. | None — wait for the registry to process. |
| Registered | The registry has validated and accepted the passport. It is now officially registered and verifiable by customs authorities. | None — this is the target state. |
| Rejected | The registry has rejected the submission due to a validation error. The passport is not registered. | Review the rejection reason and fix the issue. See EU registry submission errors. |
| Resubmitting | A previously submitted passport is being resubmitted — either because you corrected a rejection or because EU Digital Passport Processor is migrating mock submissions to the live registry. | None — automatic. |
| Withdrawn | The passport registration has been withdrawn from the registry. This happens when a passport is revoked in EU Digital Passport Processor. | Intentional — no action unless done in error. |
Status in mock mode vs live mode
In mock submission mode (before July 2026), the status flow works identically — Queued → Submitted → Registered — but submissions go to the Commission's test endpoint. The mock "Registered" status is visually distinguished in EU Digital Passport Processor with a "Mock" label.
Where to see the status
The registry submission status appears in two places:
- Passport detail page — the status badge is shown in the EU Registry section alongside the submission reference number.
- Passport list — the registry status column shows the current state for each passport. You can filter and sort by this column.
How long each state lasts
Queued typically resolves in under 10 seconds. Submitted usually transitions to Registered within a few minutes during normal registry operation, though the Commission has not published SLA guarantees. Rejected statuses remain until you take corrective action.
